UK Student Visa from Pakistan — Step by Step
The UK Student Route visa (formerly Tier 4) allows Pakistani students to study at any UKVI-licensed UK institution. Here is exactly how the process works in 2026.
Receive Your Unconditional Offer
Once your university confirms your place unconditionally (all conditions met — grades, IELTS, deposit paid), you are ready to proceed to the visa. Conditional offers do not qualify.
Receive Your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies)
Your university generates a 14-digit CAS reference number via the UKVI system. It contains your course details, tuition fees, and start date. Universities issue CAS letters 4–8 weeks before the course start, or up to 6 months in advance on request.
Book Your TB Test (Mandatory for Pakistan)
All Pakistani applicants for visas over 6 months must take a chest X-ray at a UK Home Office-approved clinic. Book at IOM Migration Health Assessment Centres in Islamabad, Lahore, or Karachi, or AMC clinics. The certificate is valid for 6 months. Cost: approximately PKR 10,000–15,000. Prepare Financial Evidence (28-Day Rule)
You must show the required maintenance funds (see below) held continuously for 28 consecutive days. The end of the 28-day period must fall within 31 days of your visa application date. The balance must never drop below the requirement during those 28 days.
Submit Your Online Visa Application
Complete the visa application on GOV.UK. Pay the visa fee (£558) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (£776/year) upfront at this stage. The IHS grants you full access to NHS services during your stay.
Attend Biometrics Appointment
Visit a Visa Application Centre in Pakistan (BLS International or TLScontact in Karachi, Lahore, or Islamabad) to give your fingerprints and photograph. Bring all original documents and your appointment confirmation.
Receive Your Decision (~3 Weeks)
Processing takes approximately 3 weeks after your biometric appointment. Your passport with the visa vignette will be returned to you. Travel to the UK within the visa's validity window.
